                CLUB HISTORY

The beginning of organized practice of "Kyokushinkai" karate in Shumen was founded in 1977. During the same year are formed two groups for students and youth that start training in the "Iunak" sports hall. Trainers for the two groups are Dimitar Dimitrov - instructor for children and Valeri Petkov - instructor for young people. The older group trains in karate, while the children begin to practice judo.

The training process meets many obstacles of all kinds - lack of indoor hall for practice, temporary prohibitons of training from MVR. The group moves to different places (the Economics technical school gymnasium, sports hall "Pliska"). Because of many other sports groups in the halls, for a period of time (almost two years) the activities were held at 6:00 in the morning.

After a period of about one year only Valeri Petrov leads the training sessions. He forms a group of karate trainees in the gym hall of the old Mechano technical school. This moment is recognized as the beginning of the club, in which the activites are solely karate. After some time leadership of the club is given to Ivan Ivanov, who recently left the military. Again there are difficulties with organization. The group of 10-20 constant trainees is forced to move from gym to gym and to explain what it exactly does and how karate training are not a community threat, quite the contrary - they help to improve the physical and mental growth of the youth.

In 1978 the club actively begins to take part in the initiatives of the Bulgarian "Kyokushinkai" community that practices karate. Frequent visits begin from the members of the club in Varna, which is at that time the center of karate "Kyokushinkai". Competitors of our club are active participants in all seminars and training sessions, that are held in Varna under the leadership of international masters: shihan Andjei from Poland, shihan Luke Holander from Holand, shihan Howard Colins from the UK, shihan Ishtvan Adami from Hungary. This period is the time of advance in the development of this martial art in the whole country. The trainees have great fighting spirit and are filled with desire to prove themselves and the benefits of the art that they practice. Soon come the first succesful appearances at exams for a higher sport-technical level. The club becomes an active participant in regional and international competitions in karate "Kyokushinkai".

In 1989 the club is registered in court as legal with a non-economic practice. Chairman of the club becomes Margarit Stefanov Pavlov. Current chairman of the club is Stoian Obretenov.
