European Championships- Men and Women, Kiev, Ukraina '09
On the 3rd and 4th of April, 2009, in Kiev, Ukraine was held the European championship in Shinkyokushin karate for juniors and adults in kumite and kata. The competitors of the Bulgarian national team made an excellent performance by winning a total of 7 medals in both age categories against very strong competition. Amongst the girls Violeta Litovska became the european champion, Ianica Stefanova became runner-up and bronze medals were won by Bachtishen Sabrieva, Karina Todorova and Neno Angelov from the junior men. In men superweight category Valeri Dimitrov destroyed his opponents on the way to his seventh european title /an achievement that no other has accomplished in the history of european Kyokushin/ by winning with Ipon or Vazaari and in the final his opponent withdrew.
The greatest joy brought us our competitor from Shumen Cvetelina Marinova by winning the silver medal in category +65kg. In her eighthfinal and quarterfinal she was clearly better than her opponents from Litva and Spain and defeated them with ease in regular time, both of which were lucky to dodge a knockout. In the semifinal our girl was paired with the last year's European champion Viviana Chirila of Romania. Cvetelina started the duel with exceptional tactic, grouping her strikes in the body of her opponent so that Viviana began to waver, but sadly the romanian made a very bad foul with a forbidden technique and was correctly disqualified by the judges.
Unfortunately due to the doctor's decision Cvetelina couldn't go on to the final, although the european title was very much within her abilities.
A dignified performance was made by the others from Shumen as well amongst the incredibly strong competiton. In the juniors 55kg. category Bogomil Tiholov made a great debut with a strong win in the eighthfinal against his opponent from Litva, knocking him out with chudan mawashi geri in under a minute. In the quarterfinal he faced a competitor from Ukraine and after a very close fight the match was given to the ukrainian. The junior from Shumen was one of the youngest and lightest competitors on the European championship /his personal bodyweight is barely 51 kg./, but he gained very useful experience, showing that he has the qualities to fight for a better performance next year. The tough pairings in the women 55kg. category met Diana Laleva with the much more experience Rita Pivoriunate from Litva in the very first duel and after a very tough fight our competitor lost to her more famous opponent.
Some days after the European championship in Ruse was held the Republican championship for children 14 years or younger. A great debut in the 57kg. category was made by SK "Kyokushin"s Osman Osman, who trains in the branch of the club in Tzarev Brod under the leadership of Aidan Ahmed. Only after months of training he won the bronze medal in his category with only his lack of experience stopping him from fighting for the gold.
The competitors of SK "Kyokushin" - Shumen continue their training for the Republican Championship for juniors to come, which will be held on 25.04.2009, 13:00 in the "Mladost" hall - Shumen. Training sessions are held every day from 19:00 to 21:00 in the outer gym hall of PMG "Nancho Popovich".

National Children's Championships for 10 and 12 y, Sevlievo '09
On 29.03.2009 in the "Dan Kolov" hall, Sevlievo was held the Republican championship in karate Shinkyokushin for children in the 10 and 12 years old catergories. The competition was exceptionally strong and in it took part over 200 young karatekas from clubs in the whole land. The fighters of SK "Kyokushin" - Shumen made an excellent performance, winning 5 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze medals.
Republican champions became: 1.Emil Bachev in the 10 years old, 26kg. category, who showed very high fighting spirit and will to win. 2.Dian Petkov in the 10 years old, 28kg. category, who won all his fights with ipon, knocking out his opponents on the way to the finals. 3.Aleksandar Bachev in the 10 years old, 35kg. category. 4.Mario Vladimirov in the 12 years old, 30kg. category, who showed great improvement in his fighting and technical skills and earned the highest place on the winner's stair. 5.Djaner Shukri in the 12 years old, 36kg. category, who was much better than his opponents and unappeallably won all his pairings with ipon, becoming republican champion for the second year in a row.
Second places took: 1.Mark Chervenkov in the 12 years old, 46kg. category, who won his quarterfinal and semifinal pairings with very attractive technique, knocking out his opponents with djodan mawashi geri, after which he fought a brillians final match where he clearly surpassed his opponent in technique, many times coming close to vazaari. His opponent was taller, physically stronger and chose to keep to close range fighting, which helped him conserve his strength for the decisive last extra time. Despite the accumulated fatigue our competitor suprised his opponent in the very last second with his favourite technique/djodan mawashi/, but the judges did not recognize the hit, because it was struck in the same time as the gong was rung. 2.Kaloian Georgiev in the 12 years old, 42kg. category, who showed his power on the tatami and in the future his opponents will not take him lightely. 3.Dimitar Dimitrov in the 12 years old, 33kg. category, who won his semifinal fight with vazaari and only his lack of experience stopped him from winning the final.
Bronze medals were won by: Kaan Shukri and Simeon Grigorov in the 10 years old categories, both of which debuted on this official competition and they were excellent, showing a good deal of potential, an important factor in their future development as competitors. Also very good performed Ali Aliev and Cvetomir Genov, although they weren't winners. Training sessions in karate Kyokushin are held every day from 19:00 to 21:00 in the outer gym hall of PMG "Nancho Popovich".

National Cup "Madarski Konnik" for Men and Women 2009
On 14.03.2009 in the "Mladost" hall - Shumen was held the traditional National tournament "Madaraski Konnik" cup in karate Shinkyokushin for men and women. The fourht edition of the championship was incredibly strong. The greater number of competitors and the close fights, many of which ended with ipon caught the attention of the spectators.
The tournament is held without the participation of national and/or dan-level competitors to give a chance to the young talents of the Bulgarian Karate-do Kyokushin Federation to show their potential. For some of them this was their first competition for adults. An unforgetable memory in the hearts of the audience left Stanislav Komsalov of SK "Tornado" - Pazardjik, who won the best debut award.
This achievement has great sentimental value for all trainees in Shumen because it is devoted to the memory of their tragically deceased friend Pavlin Petrov.
The awards for the best technique were earned by Plamen Stavrev of KIBI "Bushido" and Seldjan Mustafova of SK "Ruse". A good performance was made by the competitors of SK "Kyokushin" - Shumen by winning two bronze medals. The youngest of Shumen's karatekas Shakir Shaban who on his first competiton for adults won a third place in the 65kg category. Third in the 90kg category was the eldest participant, the 33-year old Nikolai Davidkov, who is back on the tatami after a long absense.
