Summarizing news for calendar 2014 of SC "Kyokushin" - Shumen
During the competitive year of 2014 the karatekas of SC "Kyokushin" Shumen have made a great total performance, having so far won 87 medals in all age groups from official competitions in the sports calendar of the Bulgarian Karate Shinkyokushin Federation.
Shumen's club members had a strong showing in the European chamionship in Shinkyokushin karate as well, which took place on the 8th and 9th of November in Kaunas, Lithuania. The greatest joy was brought by the young members of the national squad David Aleksanyan and Dzhaner Shukri, who won 2 bronze medals on this prestigious forum.
In the first round David Aleksanyan decisively won over Costin Visan of Romania, in his quarterfinal he completely defeated his opponent Dikevicius Domas of Lithuania by vazaari after an excellently placed djodan mawashi geri and after that followed a very close semifinal match agains Lemishko Bohdan of Ukraine, in the end of which the judges ultimately decided in favor of the ukranian fighter. This was this young Shumen karateka's debut on the european scene, making his success all the more valuable.
Shumen's other national fighter in kadets had much more experience and earned the european bronze medal for the second time, winning his first fight against a representative of the Lithuanian hosts, Brazauskas Algirdas, after which Dzhaner won over the Slovakian fighter Bajcsi Adrian. In the following semifinal match he faced yet another Lithuanian competitor - Kateiva Vilius. After very clsoe and equal fighting ultimately the decision might have been swayed by the home advantage factor, but our competitor showed great growth in his game and displayed the necessary qualities for an even better performance on the international tatami.
The young national fighter of Shumen, Ivelina Petrova, made a great and honorable performance on the European championship for juniors, which took place in Baku, Azerbaijan.
She got to fifth place in junior girls, 55kg category, winning her first fight by vazaari and moving past her opponent of Azerbaijan, Mesimova Bahar. Due to the lack of organisation on the first day the competitor was called for her next fight ten minutes after she stepped off the tatami. Ivelina had to fight again without enough time to recover agains Barusaite Rima of Lithuania.
Rima went on to win first place in the category, but her fight with Shumen's young talent showed that she is definetly not invincible. This was a very close, back and forth fight and only the fact that the Lithuanian fighter had not built up any fatigue was the difference between the two, helping her be more active in the last 20 seconds and swaying the decision in her favor. Ivelina showed that she has potential to fight for the gold in this category.
