European Championship for juniors, men and women - kumite and kata, Baku Azerbaijan 2014
On 30-31.05.2014 in Baku, Azerbaijan was held the European championship in Shinkyokushin karate for juniors, men and women in kumite and kata. The competitors of Bulgaria’s National team made a strong performance, winning 1 gold, 4 silver and 1 bronze medals.
The event ended with Valeri Dimitrov’s 13th European title.
The star of Bulgaria’s karate went through four rounds and decisively showed his class, technique and fighting spirit.

Our other representative in the 90kg category was Vasil Vangelov, who reached a final against Dimitrov for the second year in a row. We can proudly call this the “bulgarian” category now.

The juniors also performed well. Hristian Todorov, Krasimira Mireva and Darina Mihova all won silver in kumite and Denitza Georgieva won bronze in kata.

Shumen’s young national competitor Ivelina Petrova fought very well in this European event, reaching fifth place in the juniors 55kg category by winning her first match by vazaari with chudan hidza geri, defeating Mesimova Bahar of Azerbaijan, but due to the bad organization of the event she was called for her next match ten minutes after getting of the tatami, having to fight still tired against Barusaite Rima of Litva.

The Litovian fighter would go on to win the category, but the match between her and our karateka showed that on a better day Shumen’s fighter could have won.

This was a very close and equal match, the deciding factor being that this was Barusaite Rima’s first match and she had accumulated no fatigue, being more active in the last 20 seconds and swaying the judges’ decision in her favor.

The competitors of SC “Kyokushin” Shumen continue their preparation for the International Tournament for the “Cherno More” cup, which will take place in Burgas on 28.06.2014.
