On 28.04.2012 in the hall of „Mladost”-Shumen city took place the traditional Shinkyokushin Karate Championship for the „Madarski Konnik” cup for men and women in the kumite and kata disciplines. This was the seventh annual championship, which started in 2006. By regulation, the kumite contest excludes national competitors and black belts, pushing the focal point on the young competitors’ development. The tournament was very strong and karate fighters of 15 clubs from Bulgaria participated, letting the audience observe competitive and heated duels, a great number of which ended in wazaari and ippon marks. A good presentation gave the competitors from SC „Kyokushin”- Shumen city, who conquered one silver and one bronze medal.
In men 65 kg and under, second place won Bogomil Tiholov, who, after a very hard semi-final – won by unanimous decision ( with two extra times, where the weight difference between the competitors was less than 5 kg, and another extra time) against Ivan Pramatarov of ÊÊÊ „Ronin”- Gotse Delchev was harshly fouled multiple times and by doctor’s order could not make it to the finals. By unanimous decision Bogomil was awarded the prize of best debut under the name of Pavlin Petrov, which is valued highly by all competitors from Shoumen because it’s dedicated to the memory of their tragically lost friend.
A bronze medal in 70 kg and under deserved Petromil Stefanov, who in his quarter-final match overcame Vasil Sakalev of ÊÊÊ „ Kanku- Kai”- Sofia city, and on the semi-finals tough luck pitted him against the much more experienced than him Stanislav Komsalov of SC „ Tornado”-Pazardjik city / vice-european champion in cadets of the European Championship, which took place in Spain in 2011 /, who eliminated him with an awasette ippon grade.
The traditional „Madarski Konnik“ tournament is organized by the municipality of Shoumen, SC „Kyokushin“- Shumen city and the Bulgarian Karate Shinkyokushin Federation.
